MTR 100 Miler

The 2025 edition of the Manjushree Trail Race will feature a technical but breathtaking MTR 100-mile challenge that will take runners along the ridgeline of the Kathmandu valley and over seven summits. This is a test of endurance and will provide runners with the chance to push their limits and achieve a truly memorable accomplishment. The course is set to start on the 14th MARCH 2025, 8:00 AM and participants will have 52 hours to complete the 100 miles, with a finishing deadline of the 16th MARCH 2025,12:00 PM.

The MTR 100-mile race takes place in and around Kathmandu and offers runners a unique and challenging experience unlike any other. The breathtaking views of the valley and the surrounding peaks, as well as the opportunity to explore local culture and communities, make this race an unforgettable adventure. With hydration and food, points provided every 15 km and drop bags available at key checkpoints, participants will have the support they need to complete this epic race.

The Manjushree Trail Race has a proud history, with the time to beat for the MTR 100 miles set in 2021 by Jeevan Lama (33 hours, 14 minutes and 27 seconds) and Anita Rai (36 hours, 14 minutes and 6 seconds). The bar was raised even higher in the 2022 edition when Arjun Rai broke the record with a time of 31 hours, 10 minutes and 57 seconds (Anita’s time stands till today as the fastest female athlete time). This year, a new crop of elite runners will take on the 100-mile challenge and aim to add their names to the race records.

Course

The MTR 100-miler course is designed to showcase the best that the region has to offer. It takes runners along the ridgeline of the valley, providing stunning views of the surrounding peaks and the city below. The peaks offer a range of terrain, from technical rocky sections to steep ascents and descents, making this a true test of endurance and skill for all participants.

Finishing Line

Runners will have 52 hours from the start time to reach the finish line, giving them ample time to complete the course. The finish line is located in Single Tree at Ichangu, and all runners must cross it before 12 PM on Sunday, March 14th. With such a stunning course and a tight time limit, the MTR 100 miler is sure to be a highlight in the calendars of all those who take part and a true testament to the strength and determination of the human spirit.

The cost of the MTR 100 Miler Race package includes Transportation – Pick & Drop to/from Race Venue, Accommodation & Dinner on the 13th and Breakfast on the 14th morning. Participants also have an option to stay overnight on the 15th evening and have Breakfast and Transport on the 16th Afternoon depending on when they finish. The package cost also includes all National Park Entry Fees & Government Taxes.

Mandatory Gear List

The 100 miler is a challenging and demanding endurance race that requires participants to be fully prepared for the rigorous terrain and varying weather conditions. To ensure the safety and success of all runners, a mandatory gear list has been established. The gear list includes the following items:

  • Hydration Pack with Minimum Capacity of 2 liters Water
  • Proper Trail Running Shoes
  • Power Bank
  • Headlight with Extra Batteries
  • Rain / Windproof Jacket
  • Long sleeve Top
  • Sunglasses and Cap
  • 500 calories of Snacks (Gars, Gels, etc.)
  • Hydration (ORS) Tabs (Jeevan Jal)
  • Fully Charged Mobile Phone with Credit Balance & the 100 Miles GPX Route uploaded on a preferred App (Wikiloc, Maps Me, Suunto, etc) & Emergency Contact Number Saved

It is crucial for all runners to come prepared with these items on race day, as gear checks will be conducted prior to the start of the race. Participants without the mandatory gear will not be allowed to participate. While it may seem like a strict requirement, having these items will greatly increase the chances of a successful and safe completion of the 100 milers.

With these checkpoints and food stations in place, participants will be able to maintain their energy levels and stay on track for the duration of the 100 milers. This is a grueling endurance run, but with proper preparation and the support provided, participants will be able to tackle this challenge and emerge victorious.

Pacers

The option of having a pacer is available for the 100 miler race participants. Starting from Jhule, runners can have a dedicated pacer to guide and accompany them throughout the night. In order to ensure that everything runs smoothly, it is important to provide the name and contact information of the pacer in advance via email.

For those who do not have anyone to pace them, the race organizers can arrange a pacer for an additional fee of NRs. 2,500. However, this will depend on the number of pacers available. The pacers provided by the race will accompany the runners until dawn and then stop at the next checkpoint.
